Introduction

HappyVibes is a well-being and creativity app designed to help users feel happier, calmer, and more inspired every day. The app brings together journaling, daily inspiration, guided breathing, mood tracking, creative tools, and light entertainment—all in one simple, uplifting experience. The goal was to create a daily-use product that feels positive, friendly, and effortless, supporting both emotional wellness and creativity.

The Challenge

Users today have fragmented wellness experiences across multiple apps—one app for journaling, one for meditation, one for inspiration, and another for creative activities. This creates friction, reduces consistency, and makes daily wellness harder to maintain.

The challenge was to:

  • Unify multiple wellness and creativity tools into one cohesive, easy-to-use experience

  • Reduce overwhelm by designing clear, intuitive navigation despite the variety of features

  • Create an energizing yet calming visual identity that encourages daily use

  • Support quick “micro-wellness moments” while also allowing deeper engagement

  • Design features that work for both adults and younger audiences

Ultimately, the goal was to make happiness, creativity, and mindfulness simple enough to practice every day.

My Role

I was responsible for every aspect of the project, including:

  • Product concept & strategy

  • User research & insight gathering

  • UX design, user flows, and information architecture

  • UI design, branding, illustration, and visual design

  • Prototyping and usability testing

  • Full front-end and app development

  • App Store setup, marketing screenshots, and promotional content

  • Ongoing improvements and refinements

This project demonstrates my ability to take an idea from initial concept to a fully published App Store product entirely on my own.

Research Process

Competitive Analysis

I analyzed leading wellness and creativity apps—including Calm, Headspace, Daylio, and coloring or journaling tools—to understand:

  • What they do well

  • Where users struggle

  • Which features are missing or fragmented across multiple apps

  • What emotional tone works best

User Feedback & Informal Testing

I shared early prototypes with real users of different ages, gathering feedback about:

  • Feature clarity

  • Emotional tone and usability

  • Visual appeal

  • Navigation flow

  • Which features they would return to daily

Iterative Prototyping

I built multiple lightweight prototypes to:

  • Validate navigation structure

  • Adjust visual hierarchy

  • Improve feature discoverability

  • Refine the overall emotional feel

Every major feature went through a cycle of design → prototype → test → refine.

Key Design Solutions

A Unified Home Screen for All Features

Since the app has many tools, I designed a clean card-based dashboard that makes each feature instantly recognizable. Color-coding, iconography, and layout reduce cognitive load and make exploration inviting.

Positivity-Centered Visual Design

The entire UI uses:

  • Soft curves and friendly shapes

  • Bright but balanced gradients

  • Light animations to add delight

  • A warm, approachable tone

The design intentionally reduces stress and makes the user feel welcomed.

“Micro-Wellness” Interactions

Most features work in under 30 seconds, allowing users to:

  • View a daily inspirational message

  • Complete a quick breathing pattern

  • Log a mood

  • Read a joke

  • Capture a thought or memory

This encourages consistent daily use without feeling overwhelming.

Creative Tools for Mental Breaks

Coloring and drawing provide low-pressure creativity.
I designed:

  • Simplified controls

  • Clean canvases

  • Easy color and brush tools

  • Delightful illustrations for coloring

These serve as emotional resets throughout the day.

Friendly Mood Tracking & Memory Keeping

I intentionally avoided clinical or overly analytical styles.
Instead:

  • Mood icons are expressive and friendly

  • Trackers are simple and clear

  • The Memories section feels like a safe, personal space

The emotional experience was just as important as the functional one.
